THE BEST OF PETALING STREET:

MUST-VISIT SPOTS IN KUALA LUMPUR’S CHINATOWN

In the center of Kuala Lumpur, it is the heart of Chinatown, is a huge open-air market, a mix of counterfeit stuff, souvenirs, and nips of various types, but what has brought me here, in addition to its vibe is certainly the food, it's a must-see. One advice, come with an empty stomach. My favorite snack that I tried here and for which I decided to get back twice was some mochi sweets covered with crushed peanuts. Whether it's morning or evening, this road does always deliver the best energy.

KWAI CHAI HONG:

A few steps from Petaling Street there is Kwai Chai Hong, a hidden but not so unknown gem. Walk over the bridge that leads to this small hidden alley and you will be catapulted back to the golden age of China in the 60s where every wall, covered in street art, depicts extracts of people's daily lives in those years.

CENTRAL MARKET:

An 8 minutes walk from Petaling Street there is another market, the Central Market. It is an indoor market where you can find souvenirs, craft goods, and food, but my advice is to come here during the weekend when it comes to life with events, shows, music, and outdoor stalls.

REKKL:

The cultural scene in Kuala Lumpur is vibrant with museums, galleries, and cultural centers, a perfect example is REXKL, located in Petaling Street which quickly became one of my favorite spots. Built on the ashes of the legendary REX Theatre, it has been a true find and a hidden gem. REXKL is a cultural and community center where you can fully experience the city's young, artistic, and futuristic vibe. Where culture, art, performances, food, and much more are gathered in one place. One of the main reasons for me was to visit BookXcess inside REXKL, it is a bookshop like no other. The goal here was to create, through the use of geometric shapes and stairs, a real maze of books where every corner is a surprise and to add to the atmosphere you will be accompanied by loud background music that will make you feel as if you ended up in some futuristic, post-apocalyptic world. And if you get hungry after, don't worry, because just head downstairs to discover some of the emerging entrepreneurs and chefs in the scene of food and beverages of the city, in one place. Many different events take place here, to stay up to date just visit their social media.
